Our vision is to empower the Hindu community in Canada to thrive as an integral, respected, and safe contributor to a diverse and prosperous nation, while maintaining the highest integrity of our spiritual and cultural heritage.

Our Mission

The Canadian Hindu Alliance is dedicated to professional advocacy and community service through evidence-based policy. We strive to foster a strong, unified voice for the community across the Canadian landscape.

TO ACHIEVE THIS, OUR MISSION IS TO:

  • Build Trusted Relationships with Governments & Law-enforcements

We are currently executing a 3-year Strategic Plan developed by our leadership to ensure long-term sustainability and impact. The Canadian Hindu Alliance is also in the process of pursuing charitable status to expand our capacity for service.

Subhas Bhargava

Chairman

Subhas Bhargava is a community leader with over 40 years of experience in engineering, business development, and large-scale social impact across health, education, and youth initiatives. He has served as Chair of Community Services at the University of Ottawa Brain and Mind Research Institute, Director of the Ottawa Hospital Foundation, President of the Kiwanis Club of Ottawa, Lieutenant Governor, and Chair of Big Clubs for Kiwanis International. His community work includes founding leadership in Parkinson’s research, under the Kiwanis umbrella, led the development and distribution of 300,000 Precious Minds videos,  preschool hearing screening, defibrillator access, and collaboration with Boys & Girls Clubs of Canada. Currently, a member of the Fundraising Cabinet at Ottawa Hospital Community Consultant, Faculty of Medicine, U of Ottawa He has been recognized with the Meritorious Service Medal from the Governor General of Canada, the Bhargava Neuroscience Clinic at The Ottawa Hospital, and Philanthropist of the Year honours. He is McGill.Eng  1961 and M.Eng Mich 1963, 40 years of experience in Engineering, Computers and Executive positions in India and Canada. Earlier, he worked for Nortel, G.E. and StatCan.

Uttra Bhargava

Community Leader

Uttra Bhargava, MSM, is an education entrepreneur, managing director, and community leader with over 30 years of impact in early childhood development, fundraising, and social initiatives. In Ottawa, she founded and led the Canadian charitable organization "Our Kids" Foundation, mobilizing daycares, media personalities, and public stakeholders. Her high-level advocacy culminated in a Parliamentary declaration establishing National Child Day. As a business leader, she co-founded and managed an award-winning daycare center in Ontario that served over 35,000 children across 31 years, with one facility ranking number one in the province. Her civic and philanthropic commitments span over 26 years as President and Treasurer of the Kiwanianne Club of Ottawa, during which she directed major fundraising campaigns. Her international contributions include supporting the creation of a school with the Delhi State Council of Women, as well as funding brain health research, cancer initiatives, graduate scholarships, and entrepreneurship education for vulnerable communities in India. Mrs. Bhargava holds an M.A. Degree from   Delhi University Her lifelong dedication to community welfare has been honored with the Meritorious Service Medal from the Governor General of Canada and Philanthropist of the Year recognition.

Dr. Vinod Kumar

Director

Dr. Vinod Kumar is a Distinguished Research Professor and Chancellor Professor Emeritus at the Sprott School of Business, Carleton University. He previously served as Director of the Sprott School from 1995 to 2005 and led the Manufacturing Systems Centre at Carleton University for many years. His work focuses on technology, operations management, manufacturing systems, and business education. Before academia, he worked for more than 15 years in manufacturing industries in India, the United States, and Canada. He has published over 350 papers, authored 20 research books and monographs, and contributed chapters to more than 40 books. He has taught internationally, supervised many graduate students, and helped establish Canada-India academic connections through Carleton. Dr. Kumar has served for several years on the editorial boards of international journals, the board of governors, and the senate of Carleton University, and on the board of the Ontario Network of E-commerce. He has also supported major fundraising and scholarship initiatives and remains active in several community and volunteer organizations.

Dr. Uma Kumar

Academic & Community Advisor

Dr. Uma Kumar is a Distinguished Research Professor and Professor Emerita at the Sprott School of Business, Carleton University. She also served as Director of the Research Centre in Technology Management and held leadership roles in graduate programs, including Ph.D. and MBA programs in Canada and internationally. Her research focuses on technology management, operations management, and supply chain management. She has published over 280 papers in refereed journals and conference proceedings, authored four research books and monographs, and contributed chapters to many books. She has taught in MBA and Executive MBA programs in Hong Kong, India, Canada, Iran, Colombia, and China. Her honours include research achievement awards, graduate mentoring recognition, teaching excellence awards, and scholarly achievement awards from Carleton. She has helped build Canada-India academic partnerships, negotiated major donations to Carleton, endowed scholarship and bursary funds, and supported several community and religious organizations. She is also a lifetime member of several volunteer organizations and has received lifetime achievement recognition.

Brij Bhushan Gupta

Treasurer

Brij Bhushan Gupta is a distinguished legal professional, entrepreneur, and community leader. He holds degrees in Arts and Law, along with diplomas in Business and Public Administration, and practiced law for over 20 years in Aligarh, India, including appearances before the Allahabad High Court. After immigrating to Canada in 1986, he settled in Thunder Bay, worked as a manager, and later established and operated his own successful business for more than two decades. He served as President of the India Canada Association in Thunder Bay from 1996 to 1998. After moving to Ottawa, he continued his community involvement by co-founding the Indo-Canadian Seniors Association in Barrhaven, where he served as Treasurer and later as President. He has also served with the India Canada Association, Mahatma Gandhi Peace Council of Ottawa, and Ottawa Friends Circle. His volunteer work supports seniors’ health and well-wellbeing, COVID-19 relief, women’s shelters, food distribution, fundraising, and charitable causes.

Dr. Rakesh Bhargava

Medical Advisor

Dr. Rakesh Bhargava is an accomplished cardiologist and medical leader with extensive experience in internal medicine, cardiology, patient care, and healthcare leadership. He earned his M.B., B.S. and M.D. from Gandhi Medical College in Bhopal, India, where he received eight gold medals for academic excellence. He completed an internship at Toronto General Hospital and further training in Internal Medicine and Cardiology at McMaster University. He received FRCPC certification in Internal Medicine and Cardiology and became a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology. Dr. Bhargava has served as Director of the Heart Care Cardiac Prevention and Rehabilitation Program at the Cardiac Wellness Centre in Oshawa and as a staff cardiologist at Lakeridge Health. He has also held leadership roles at Lakeridge Health and has assessed cardiology practices across Ontario through the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. His awards include recognition for outstanding innovation in patient care and most outstanding physician service.

Dr. Ravi B. P. Verma

Research & Community Advisor

Dr. Ravi B. P. Verma is a demographer, researcher, consultant, and former Senior Population Analyst with Statistics Canada. He holds a Ph.D. in Sociology with a focus on Demography from the University of Georgia, a Master’s degree in Demography from the University of Pennsylvania, and a Master’s degree in Statistics from Patna University. He has also served as an Adjunct Research Professor in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology at Carleton University. His professional work includes population analysis, demographic research, migration studies, and publications on population estimates, projections, and Hindu and Sikh populations in Canada. He has received recognition for his service to the Government of Canada and contributions to Statistics Canada projects. His community involvement includes leadership roles with Mukul Hindi School, the Hindu Temple of Ottawa-Carleton, visible minority advisory committees, multicultural heritage language organizations, and the India Canada Association. He is a life member of several Indo-Canadian and Hindu community organizations.
